How to connect two wifi routers?

Wifi routers are technologies that allow the internet signal to be shared simultaneously via a network on several devices. Home networks are often connected to a single wifi router. However, it is possible to connect two routers to the same network.

Why connect two wifi routers together?

To use a wifi router, it usually needs to be connected to a local network. In some situations, however, it may be useful to connect two routers to the same local network.

This improves the quality of the connection, for example. Computer and high tech guides explain, about the wifi router, that when the connected devices are too far from it, the signal is weak and the connection is slow.

To have a strong signal, no matter the distance and the number of connected devices, you can therefore connect two wifi routers to your network. This process extends the range of the signal. Simultaneous use of two routers also allows the connection of a wired device placed far from the main router. This option is also useful for creating a subnet for a specific use, without preventing other users from enjoying good connection quality.

How to connect two wifi routers?

Several techniques are used to establish the connection between two wifi routers on the same ADSL network.

The technique of parallel connection of wifi routers

The parallel connection makes it possible to offer two close networks. The main router, ie the one directly connected to the ADSL line, generates the first main network. The secondary router (the one serving as a relay) offers an extension of this main network.

The connected devices will be present on two different networks while allowing you to browse the Internet without problems as if each of them were connected to a single local network. The connection between the two routers is required using an Ethernet cable.

The cascading connection of wifi routers

This connection approach is almost identical to the first one. The cascade connection differs from the parallel connection because the secondary router creates a different subnet from the network created by the primary router.

Unlike the parallel connection, the machines connected to the two routers will therefore not be able to see each other, unless they are connected to the same device. The connection between the two routers via Ethernet cable is however necessary.

Connection according to the repeater mode of wifi routers

With repeater mode, the second router serves as a relay point to amplify the signal from the main router. It, therefore, behaves like a range extender. This configuration lends itself to wireless networking and requires the secondary router to provide at least 50% signal strength. The connection between the two routers is established via a wireless signal.

However, few routers have repeater mode. For each of these three connection modes, there is a configuration specific to each router to be made. Also, there may be interference between routers.
